THE BACKDROP

Whether they choose to abstain from bursting fireworks or not, most people know that they are harmful to the environment because they cause air and noise pollution. However, not everyone understands the impact that fireworks have on animals and birds. Apart from pet owners that have witnessed the impact themselves, few may have realized this side of the ecological damage caused by fireworks.

THE INSIGHT

Unless you've witnessed something for yourself, or heard of someone else's personal experience on the subject, it is hard for you to fully comprehend the magnitude of a social issue. General statements and statistics provide information but fail to create an impact strong enough to cause social change.

THE IDEA

Since people are more susceptible to personal stories rather than blanket facts, we decided to raise awareness on this subject by sharing 5 anecdotes. Each story focused on that individual's unique personal journey of realizing the negative impact fireworks have on animals and their subsequent vow to give up bursting them around Diwali. The 5 stories were told in the form of 5 separate video interviews, each posted on CoExist's Facebook page and amplified by Alia Bhatt's Instagram. We also compiled one video that touched upon each tale, to further promote the campaign.
